Male pattern baldness stems from a sensitivity to the hormone DHT or dihydrotestosterone. This is why trichologists recommend that patients look into natural DHT blockers. Results can differ for different people, which is why we’re here to talk to you about natural DHT blockers that are safe and effective.

Pumpkin Seed Oil

Pumpkin seed oil was proven effective in a double-blind, placebo-controlled study where participants ended the study with 40% more hair on average. Participants reported being more satisfied with their hair as well. Only minor side effects were reported, such as itching and mild stomach pain.

Caffeine

Caffeine is another natural DHT blocker that is most effective when you use it with prescription medications. Studies show that caffeine can extend the growth phase of hair follicles. However, there are not many studies on caffeine by itself.

Rosemary Oil

Rosemary oil is a promising natural DHT blocker, but there aren’t enough studies to prove it stops male pattern baldness. However, out of all the natural DHT blockers studies, rosemary oil is one of the most proven. One small study where participants used the oil or minoxidil showed that results were relatively similar for both treatments.

Green Tea

One nutrient in green tea is a natural DHT blocker called epigallocatechin-3 gallate (EGCG). Some studies show that this nutrient potentially inhibits the enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT. Although studies aren’t very conclusive, it wouldn’t hurt to have a cup of tea every once in a while. Many other health benefits come with green tea.

Biotin

The verdict on biotin is that there are not enough studies showing it stops male pattern baldness, but it will make your current hair look better. One study found that women with thinning hair who took biotin supplements saw improvements in thickness after 90 days. Additionally, they did not experience any side effects. Researchers can’t say that biotin blocks DHT, but it can be beneficial for the hair you have. However, biotin supplements can affect blood tests, so let your doctor know if you start taking them.
