hair loss prevention

Some people never experience hair loss, which is great, but it can significantly impact the self-esteem of those that do. Check out these ten hair loss prevention tips.

1. Eat More Protein

A 2017 study showed that many participants who were experiencing hair loss had low protein and acid intakes. This study shows that improving your protein intake could have a slowing effect on your hair loss.

2. Regular Washing

Regularly washing your hair is always a good habit to have. When you’re dealing with hair loss, washing your hair daily keeps it healthy and clean, but the key is to use a mild shampoo. This process keeps your hair moisturized, leading to less breakage and less hair loss.

3. Participate in a Mediterranean Diet

There have not been many studies done on the Mediterranean diet’s effect on hair loss, but one study a few years ago showed an association between the herbs and vegetables in this diet and a decreased risk of male pattern baldness.

4. Scalp Massage

In 2016, a small study in Japan found that a 4-minute daily scalp massage promoted hair growth in nine healthy men. However, more studies with a larger sample size are needed to prove the validity of this theory.

5. Coconut Oil

Your hair gets damaged from many things like ultraviolet light or grooming habits. One study showed that coconut oil could potentially prevent this kind of damage and strengthen your hair.

6. Gentle Styling

Putting a lot of stress on your hair when you use a lot of heat or pull on it for ponytails leads to more breakage, drying out, and hair loss. It’s best to use hair ties that won’t grab too harshly if you are going to put it up. You might want to go easy on the heat tools too. Avoid braids and tight ponytails that might lead to shedding and let your hair air dry.

7. Low-Level Light Therapy

A 2014 study found that low-level laser light therapy (LLLT) increased hair density. Those treated were experiencing hair loss from chemotherapy or genetics.

8. Good Hair and Scalp Care

Taking good care of your hair and scalp is an excellent way to help prevent hair loss. Keeping both clean also prevents damage and loss. Avoiding harsh treatments could prevent loss as well.

9. Onion Juice

One small, older study revealed that using onion juice on your scalp helps hair regrow in both men and women. The participants were experiencing patchy alopecia. 80% of participants saw improvements within six weeks.

10. Essential Oils

43% of participants in a 1998 study showed an improvement in their hair loss condition when they used cedarwood oil mixed with lavender and rosemary on their scalp. Other oils to use are lavender, lemongrass, and peppermint.
